Elvis Crespo - Pegato, Suavecito

Elvis Crespo está de vuelta en la escena musical. Bueno, eso es gracias a su reciente desempeño Premio Lo Nuestro y el lanzamiento de su nuevo álbum. Este puertorriqueño no es ajeno a los escenarios como él soportó su primer gran éxito con el inmensamente popular ¨Suavemente¨ a finales de los años 90. Sin embargo, antes de ese logro, Elvis pertenecía al Grupo Manía, en Puerto Rico, hasta que decidió seguir una carrera en solitario en 1998. Es evidente que el movimiento previsto para ser un sabio. El nativo de Nueva York desde entonces ha pasado a estrenar cerca de una docena de discos. Y en caso de que usted se esté preguntando, sí, Elvis fue nombrado después de Elvis Presley. Hace poco conversaba con el ganador del premio Grammy Latino y esto es lo que tenía que decir.
Felicitaciones por su nominación al Premio Lo Nuestro! ¿Dónde estabas cuando escuchaste la gran noticia?
Muchas gracias. Yo estaba en realidad en Miami. Era muy temprano y me lo estaba viendo el show matutino de Univision Despierta América cuando oí mi nombre anunciada. Fue muy emocionante y apasionante. Mi teléfono comenzó a sonar y recibí unos mensajes textos de felicitación.
¿Cuál es la mejor parte de Premio Lo Nuestro?
Es la exposición que recibe el artista. Yo tuve la suerte de realizar Pegaito Suavecito con Fito Blanko y la audiencia le encantó! Todo el mundo estaba bailando. Fue muy divertido estar en frente de mis compañeros, al tiempo que muestra mi nuevo trabajo. Mi hija me acompañó esa noche, lo que hizo que el evento sea muy especial.
Hablando de Pegaito Suavecito, la canción hizo su camino a la cima de las listas de éxitos muy rápidamente. Como artista, ¿qué significa eso para usted?
Sí, lo hizo. Lo hemos lanzado el año pasado y la canción me ha traído la oportunidad de encontrar un nuevo público y me han mostrado nada más que un apoyo incondicional. Realmente es una bendición y por eso estoy muy agradecido.
Su nuevo álbum saldrá a la venta el próximo mes. ¿Qué me puede decir al respecto?
No puedo darte todas las detalles, pero lo que sí puedo decir es que hay un montón de sorpresas con lo que vas a oír. He probado cosas nuevas con el sonido. Esto va a hacer que usted desea bailar y moverse. Definitivamente va a estar en un gran estado de ánimo después de escuchar este álbum y es probable que desee salir de fiesta también.
¿Con quién le gustaría cantar futuro próximo?
Hay tantos artistas con quien me encantaría trabajar, entre ellos Olga Tañon, 3Ball MTY y El Gran Combo.
¿Hay algún momento con tus fanáticos que se destaca como su favorito?
Por supuesto. Una vez estuve en Ecuador, cuando vi a un fanático con mi tatuaje en la mano derecha. Todavía quedo impresionado hasta hoy.
Si no fueras músico, ¿qué crees que estarías haciendo?
Sería un maestro de educación física. Me gusta todo sobre los deportes!
¿Dónde le gustaría estar en 5 años?
Continuando con mi carrera musical y haciendo más música buena.
Elvis Crespo is back on the music scene. Well, that’s thanks to his recent Premio Lo Nuestro performance and the release of his new album. This Puerto Rican is no stranger to the spotlight as he endured his first taste of success with the immensely popular Suavemente in the late 90’s. However, before that accomplishment, Elvis belonged to Grupo Mania, in Puerto Rico until he decided to pursue a solo career in 1998. Clearly, the move provided to be a wise one. The New York native has since gone on to release close a dozen albums. And in case you’re wondering, yes, Elvis was named after Elvis Presley. I recently chatted with the Latin Grammy award winner and here is what he had to say.
Congratulations on your Premio Lo Nuestro nomination! Where were you when you heard the great news?
Thank you very much. I was actually in Miami. It was very early and I just so happened to be watching Univision’s morning show Despierta América when I heard my name announced. It was very exciting and thrilling. My phone began to ring and text’s started to come through with congratulatory messages.
What’s the best part about Premio Lo Nuestro?
It’s the exposure that the artist receives. I was fortunate enough to perform Pegaito Suavecito with Fito Blanko and the audience loved it! Everyone was dancing. It was so much fun to be in front of my peers, while showcasing my new work. My daughter accompanied me that evening, which made the event extra special.
Speaking of Pegaito Suavecito, the song made its way to the top of the charts very quickly. As an artist, what does that mean to you?
Yes, it did. We released it last year and the song has brought me the opportunity to find a new audience and they’ve shown me nothing but unconditional support. It really is blessing and for that I am extremely thankful.
Your new album is due out next month. What can you tell me about it?
I don’t want to give too much away, but what I can tell is that there are a lot of surprises with what you will hear. I’ve tried new things with the sound. It’s going to make you want to dance and move. You’ll definitely be in a great mood after hearing this album and you’ll probably want to party too.
Who would you like to team up with in the very near future?
There are so many artists that I would love to work with and some of them include Olga Tañon, 3Ball MTY and El Gran Combo.
Is there a fan moment that stands out as your favorite?
Absolutely. I was once in Ecuador when I saw a fan with my right hand tattoo. I still remain impressed to this day.
If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you’d be doing?
I’d be a physical education teacher. I love sports and everything about it!
Where would you like to be in 5 years?
Continuing with my music career and releasing nothing but good music.
