Karent - Compartiendo Sonrisas Con Todo El Mundo

El año pasado en el Equality Florida Miami Gala me presentó al Dra. Karent Sierra por mi amiga Liza Santana de Creativas Branding Relaciones Públicas. Dra. Karent parecía tan dulce y genuina que me quedé muy sorprendida cuando el Real Housewives of Miami salió al aire y fue rechazado por la mayoría de las otras amas de casa. Por lo tanto, fue un placer volver a conectar con ella por esta entrevista exclusiva de Genre Latino y recordar que ella es una persona maravillosa, con un gran corazón. A pesar del hecho de que ella nació en Nueva York, se crió en Miami y se considera una nativa de Miami. Asistió a la escuela de odontología en Wisconsin y luego abrió su propio bufete dental en Coral Gables y ha fundado una organización benéfica llamada ¨ Compartiendo Sonrisas ¨ o Sharing Smiles.

 

¿A qué edad te diste cuenta de que querías ser dentista? Siempre me sentí atraído a la gente y el deseo de verlos felices. Mis dos hermanas mayores son dentistas y por eso me atraía la profesión desde mi adolescencia.

 

¿Cuándo empezaste tu bufete de dentistas? En septiembre de 2008 abrí mi Spa Dental. Tenía tantas ganas de fundar mi propio negocio.

 

¿Cómo llegaste ser parte de las ¨Real Housewives of Miami?¨ Conocía a varias de las mujeres en el nivel social. Cuando hicieron el casting por el show, mi publicista, Liza Santana de Creativas Group PR me acercó y ella me presentó a los productores del show. Me presentó a ellos como una dentista/modelo/portavoz muy activa en el sector filantrópico y en la comunidad LGBT, algo muy importante para mí. Muchos tenían un problema con el hecho de que Liza me puso en el show (¡y siempre está conmigo!) Pero es lo que es y no todo el mundo será feliz por ti o estar de acuerdo con sus decisiones.

 

¿Cómo es tu relación con las otras ¨Amas de Casa¨ ahora? ¿Con quién tienes la relación más cercana? Pues, Lisa Hochstein y Joanna Krupa son, definitivamente, las más cercanas. (¡Ellas son mis chicas!) Yo les quiero mucho. Aunque encuentro con las otras señoras socialmente, estoy contento con eso, no hay mala sangre.

 

¿Qué tal tu padre? Mucho mejor, gracias. Estoy tan agradecida que está haciendo mucho mejor e igualmente agradecido por todas las amables palabras y apoyo que recibí con respecto a su salud. Parte de la "realidad" más importante en el show, para mí, es la dinámica que tengo con mis padres. Ellos son mi constante y les debo mucho de lo que soy hoy en día. Una latina en el fondo, estoy cerca de ellos hasta el punto de que muchos (si no son hispanos) simplemente no pueden entender. Para algunos es inconcebible que una persona de mi edad tiene a sus padres viviendo con ella. ¿Por qué? Yo los adoro, son mayores y me han dado todo el amor y apoyo que he necesitado y algo más. Ellos no "me molestan" y tenemos una gran situación de vida, y tambíen un respeto mutuo que nunca ha estado en peligro.

 

¿Estás saliendo otra vez todavía? ¿Hay alguien especial? Ya no, pero definitivamente, estoy abierto a la idea. Mi criterio es simple, quiero a alguien quien sea inteligente, amable, orientado a la familia y apasionado de la vida. Y, ya está. Quiero a alguien que pueda hacer el viaje conmigo y disfrutar de hacerlo conmigo.

 

¿Qué trae el futuro para Karent? Mucho, es casi difícil de contener. Hice el programa para elevar mi consulta para que a su vez podría lanzar mi fundación, Sharing Smiles (Compartiendo Sonrisas) a gran escala. A pesar de que se inició en 2009, empecé realmente a los esfuerzos una vez que podía, a través de mi práctica. Todo eso vino del desarrollo de mi nombre. Yo estaba concentrado en hacerlo, por eso hice tantos contactos en el mundo de negocio, contrató a un bufete de relaciones públicas e hice mi mejor esfuerzo para llegar a un mercado especifico. Yo vi lo que quería hacer y el mapa para llegar a mí destino. Desde el show me di cuenta de que podría lanzar una marca que lleva mi nombre que fuera ... bueno, esa parte hay que esperar a oír las detalles. -Y todo va a suceder muy pronto.
Gracias por la entrevista. Yo quería asegurarme de agradecer a sus lectores por su amor y apoyo. Quiero que la comunidad LGBT piense en mí como en una amiga, defensor y miembro activo de su comunidad. Aunque soy heterosexual, algunos de mis mejores amigos son gays. No puedo expresar cómo esas amistades han sido una parte integral de mi vida. Con lo que he visto y vivido a través de ellos y muchos otros con que me han cruzado caminos, prometo usar mi voz, no importa lo fuerte, para estar orgulloso por parte de ellos. Un solo amor, y todos somos iguales, merecedores de vivir la vida y amando como nos da la gana.

 

Last year at the Equality Florida Miami Gala I was introduced to Dr Karent Sierra by my friend Liza Santana of Creativas Branding Public Relations. Dr. Karent seemed so sweet and genuine that I was shocked when the Real Housewives Of Miami aired and she was disliked by most of the other housewives. Therefore it was a pleasure to reconnect with her for this exclusive Genre interview and to be reminded that she is a wonderful person with a big heart. Despite the fact that she was born in New York City, she was raised in Miami and considers herself a Miami native. She attended dental school in Wisconsin and then opened her own practice in Coral Gables and has founded a charity called ¨Compartiendo Sonrisas¨ or Sharing Smiles.

 

At what age did you realize you wanted to be a dentist? I was always drawn toward people and wanting to see them happy. My two older sisters are dentists and so I was drawn to the profession since my teens.

When did you start your practice? September 2008 is when I opened my Dental Spa. It was so exciting to start my own venture!

How did you get cast on the Real Housewives of Miami? I knew some of the ladies on a social level. When they were casting for the show my publicist Liza Santana of Creativas Group PR approached me and she pitched me to the show. She pitched me apparently as a dentist/model/spokesperson who was very active in the charitable sector and the LGBT community which is very important to me. Many had an issue with the fact that Liza got me on the show (and is always with me!) But it is what it is and not everyone will be happy for you or agree with your choices.

What’s your relationship like with the Housewives now? Who are you the closest to? Well, Lisa Hochstein and Joanna Krupa by far are the ones I am closest to.  (They are my girls!) I love them! Although I do see the other ladies socially, I am okay with that. No bad blood.

 

How is your father doing? Much better thank you! I am so grateful he is doing so much better and equally as grateful for all the kind words and support I have gotten regarding his health.  Part of the most important “reality” in the show, for me, is the dynamic I have with my parents. They are my constant and I owe them so much of who I am today. A Latina at heart, I am close to them to the point that many (unless Hispanic) simply can’t understand. For some it’s inconceivable that a person my age has her parents living with her. Why? I adore them, they are older and they have given me all the love, and support I ever needed and then some. They don’t “bother me” and we have a great living situation as well as a mutual respect that has never been compromised.

Are you dating again yet? Is there anyone special? I am not, but definitely open to the idea! My criteria is simple, I want someone who is intelligent, kind, family-oriented and passionate about life. That’s it. I want someone who can make the journey with me and have a hell of a great time doing it.

What’s Ahead for Karent? A lot, it’s almost difficult to contain. I did the show to elevate my practice so that in turn I could launch my foundation, Sharing Smiles, on a grand scale. Although I started it back in 2009, I really started the efforts once I could, via my practice. All of that came from building up my name. I was focused on doing so, that’s why I networked so much, hired a PR firm and did my best to hit a niche market. I saw what I wanted to do and the roadmap. From the show I figured I could launch a brand carrying my name that would be…well, that part you have to wait to hear about! –And it will all be happening very soon.
