Arrasa y saborea el sabor Latino en Twist

Los latinos son un ingrediente importante en la comunidad del sur de la Florida. Se puede encontrar nuestra música, comida, y cultura en casi cada esquina. Twist reconoce esto, y es por eso que el lugar queda comprometido con nuestra comunidad. Durante más de cinco años, han mantenido Bar Five, un espacio que ofrece una rica experiencia latina los siete días a la semana. Recientemente, tuve la oportunidad de conversar con Joel Stedman para hablar de su dedicación a la comunidad latina, las recientes inversiones en Bar Five y del equipo en Twist que lo hacen tan exitoso

 

Bar Five es la sala latina exclusiva los siete días a la semana en Twist. No es común en la mayoría de los bares. ¿Cómo comenzó?

Comenzamos hace cinco años con sola una noche latina, los jueves, se llamó Sabroso. Nuestra amiga Adora nos ofreció ser la anfitriona, hacer un show, y eventualmente ser la DJ en las noches latinas. Aquiles justo había comenzado trabajando en el bar, y no tardamos en ver sus habilidades, no solo como bartender, sino con la música también. Ha sido muy emocionante al ver que cada noche Bar Five se hace más y más fuerte.

¿Por que parece tan importante a Twist enfocar en la comunidad latina?

Reconocíamos desde el principio la importancia que tiene la comunidad latina en la vida nocturna de Miami Beach. Los latinos son la misma fábrica de nuestra comunidad y su energía contagiosa, entusiasmo por la vida y la moda, aseguran que la experiencia de South Beach es muy diferente que cualquier otro lugar del país..

Cuéntanos un poco más sobre la gente de Bar Five.

Aquiles y Andora se hicieron instrumentales desde el principio en el comienzo del salón latino. Hoy en día Sabroso sigue siendo una de las noches más calientes en Bar 5. Aquiles, de origen venezolano, ilumina el salón con su sonrisa grande y su saludo genuino. Adora es de Cuba ha interpretado escandalosos clásicos latinos en la playa desde hace los años 90. Es muy ingeniosa, graciosa, y capaz de captar realmente el ambiente de Cuba de otra época. Recientemente, ha asumido el rol de DJ y mantiene el ritmo latino cada jueves.

Más recientemente, hemos añadido a Marco Pérez, nuestro peruano favorito, y VJ Cubanito (Nicolás) el anfitrión de Arrasando los lunes. A ellos se unen con la bellísima Poizon Ivy. Nicolás nacío en Miami y realmente sabe mantener ¨el calor¨ de un bar con mojitos sabrosos y música latina muy caliente. Estamos encantados de tener a Poison Ivy como parte de nuestra familia en Twist. Sean Brady y Mario son los anfitriones de Karaoke fabuloso los miércoles con el talentoso Norell.

¿Cuáles son unos de las inversiones que has hecho en Bar Five?

Las renovaciones de este año aniversario nos ofrecieron la oportunidad de totalmente cambiar el bar. Las paredes y el techo estaban pintados con imagines de una selva tropical. Palmas y flores por todas partes te dan el sentido autentico latino. Nuestra artista, Vas Bets, de art2good pasó un mes entero trasformando a Bar 5 en un paraíso tropical. Una Copa gratis a cualquier persona que se encuentra el Jaguar.    

Este año, Twist celebró su 19º aniversario. Cuéntanos un poco más sobre las fiestas especiales y cómo te parece llegar a este hito.

No seríamos nada sin nuestros clientes tan leales, nuestros amigos, y la familia de Twist. Sin ellos, Twist sería una memoria lejana. Estamos muy felices de llegar a este momento juntos, y esperamos los grandes tiempos que nos trae el futuro. Volvemos con nuestras fiestas para los países latinos, y comenzamos con Cuba el próximo 15 de noviembre. Tenemos muchos planes esta temporada y va a ser una de las mejores, mientras planeamos para nuestra 20º aniversario.

 

Latinos are a main ingredient in South Florida’s melting pot community. You can find our food, music and culture at almost every turn. Twist recognizes this and that is why the venue remains committed to our community. For over five years, they have provided us with Bar Five, a space that offers a rich Latin experience seven days a week. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Joel Stedman to talk about their dedication to the Latino community, recent investments in Bar Five and the team at Twist that make it so successful.

Bar Five is Twist's exclusive Latino room seven days a week. This is very uncommon for many venues. How did it get started?

We started five years ago with one night on Thursday’s and named it Sabroso. Our dear friend Adora offered to host, perform and later on DJ the Latin night in Bar 5. Aqulies had just started bartending at Twist and early on we saw his command for not only mixing liquor behind the bar, but music as well. It has been exciting watching each night grow stronger in Bar 5.

 

Why does Twist feel that it’s important to cater to the Latino community?

We knew from the beginning how important the Latin community was to the Miami Beach night life scene. Latinos are the very fabric of our community and their infectious energy, zest for life and fashion makes the South Beach experience different from anywhere else in the country.  

Tell us a bit about the people that make Bar Five happen.

Aquiles and Adora were instrumental early on in getting the Latin room started. Sabroso continues today as one of our hottest nights in Bar 5. Aquiles, originally from Venezuela, lights up the room with his big smile and genuine hello. Adora hails from Cuba and has been performing outrageous Latin Classics on the beach since the early nineties. She is always witty, hilarious and able to really catch the vibe of Cuba from a different era. Recently she has taken up DJ’ing and is keeping the floor bouncing every Thursday.

More recently, we have added Marco Perez, our favorite Peruvian, and VJ Cubanito (Nicholas) hosting Monday night’s Arrasando. They are joined by the gorgeous Poizon Ivy. Nicholas was born in Miami and he really knows how to keep a bar jumping with tasty mojitos and hot Latin music. We are thrilled to have Poizon Ivy be part of our twist family. Sean Brady and Mario host Wednesday’s fabulous Karaoke with the very talented Nelly Norell.

What are some of the investments that have been made in Bar Five?

This year’s anniversary renovations featured an entire redo of Bar 5. All of the walls and ceiling were painted in a beautiful tropical jungle motif. Palms and flowers are everywhere, really giving you that warm Latin feel. Our artist Vas Bets from art2good, spent an entire month transforming Bar 5 into a tropical paradise. Free drink to anyone that can find the Jaguar!

This year, Twist celebrated its 19th anniversary. Tell us a bit about the festivities and what it feels like to reach that milestone.

We would be nothing without our loyal customers, friends and the Twist family. Without all of them, Twist would be a distant memory. We’re so happy to reach this milestone together and we look forward to all of the great times ahead. We are bringing back our country celebration parties, starting with Cuba on November 15. Twist has a great line up for season and this will be one our best, leading up to our 20^th anniversary next summer!
