October is one of my favorite times of the year! I feel fortunate to have my health and a balanced life when I turn 30 this month and it also brings about one of my favorite celebrations, Halloween. As a geek, I find the history of Halloween, or All Hallows Eve, quite interesting, but as a creature of the night, I encourage you all to check out the special events this month.
One of my favorite times of the year is here, Hispanic Heritage Month. Although I was born in the United States, when asked where I'm from, I proudly state that I am of Hispanic origin with parents that are Cuban and Puerto Rican. Of course, that's a mouthful! However, it best describes who I am and how I feel about my roots. I connect with the Spanish language, the Latin music and the culture overall. And, this is a great time to celebrate it! If you're feeling like you need to reconnect with the Latin community, be sure to check out some of the events below.
Living in Florida definitely has its advantages. One of them is the gorgeous tropical weather we experience year round. Of course there are also some disadvantages, like the sweltering heat that comes with the tropical weather in the summer. For some of us, beating the heat is something we relish while others revel in it. So, if you're like me and you like to stay cool, check out some of the indoor events below that are just as hot as the outdoors, minus the temperature and sticky clothes. However, if you like the heat, strip down to something comfortable, wear your sun-block and check out the outdoor events.
June has arrived and it marks the start of the hurricane season. Like a hurricane, Pride events are sweeping all over the state thanks to the anniversary of 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York’s Greenwich Village. Be sure to be ready for both! Check out Ready.gov for emergency preparedness guides and check out Diarios below for info on Pride and other hot events for June.
