Elvis Crespo has been filling Latin dance floors everywhere since the release of his hit song Suavemente in 1998. The Puerto Rican's next big gig has him teaming up with Club Papi and Granda Entertainment to proudly join the LGBT community in their fight against discrimination and for equal rights with his "Indestructible” Promotional Tour. The anticipated tour will feature club shows and performances at the biggest LGBT pride events in the USA, which includes a headlining act at Miami Beach Pride. Here's a closer look on what the Grammy winner had to say.
You're gearing up for a busy gay pride season with Club Papi and Granda Entertainment. What can fans expect?
The LGBT fans have believed in me and have enjoyed my career. I'm excited to be part of this celebration. I hope to be a part of this event and I have no doubt that we will have an incredible time with me singing and everyone dancing.
What would you like to say to your gay fans?
To fight for equality, but most of all for their happiness and not that of others. I believe that by me taking the first step, my colleagues can follow. I do not see anything wrong in what I am doing. I believe in love and liberty.
Suavemente is a song that to this day, always gets the crowd going. Did you think the song was going to be such a hit when you recorded it?
Even though I am a positive person, I never thought that Suavemente would transcend generations, my public and cultural frontiers. As a singer and composer, I feel proud of the success it continues to have.
What is something about you that people would be surprised to find out?
I am unpredictable and transparent at the same time. As a man, I am very open and as an artist, surprising.
Where do you hope to be in 5 years?
With my wife and children and being the dreamer I was when I was a child.
