Written by Victor Barreiro Friday, 10 December 2010 00:00You've seen Joan Rivers either in person or on television and one thing's for sure, there's no one like her. The multiple award-winning woman covers everything from the most controversial subjects to the latest celebrity mishaps and much more in her stand-up comedy bits. However, Rivers is much more than just a funny lady. She is heavily involved in a number of charities, including God's Love We Deliver, which earned notoriety and $250,000 thanks to Rivers' stint on Celebrity Apprentice. The red carpet diva recently got candid with me about a number of things.
Congrats on your return to E!'s Fashion Police.
Thank you my darling. It feels great to be back on E! I have such a long history with the network. It's where Melissa and I made walking into a building an event. I'm having a great time with the lovely Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos. Tune in to find out what I really think about some of the latest “trends.” In case you forget, it airs on Friday's at 10:30 p.m. or you can follow me on Twitter @joan_rivers. Trust me I'll remind you when it's on.
You're kicking off 2011 with a reality show, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?
Yes! Team Rivers is very excited to join the reality world. I decided to move to Los Angeles to spend some more time with my ten-year old grandson, Cooper. He's so sweet. Cooper calls me Nana New Face. Get ready for an inside look of what really happens behind closed doors. You got a taste of my private life, thanks to my documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, but this time it's more about my family. The show will debut on We TV on Tuesday, January 25th. Don't miss it!
Earlier this year, you were crowned the winner of this year's Celebrity Apprentice. How did that feel?
It was so thrilling that I beat out Annie Douche, the sad thing is that I didn't make a nickel. However, God's Love We Deliver, which is one of the very early charities that gives free meals to AIDS patients they made a bloody fortune, so it made me feel great.
You once told me about a rumor that you were actually a Latina. Can you clarify that?
Yes, and you believed it, you idiot. I think my mother screwed around. No, I've always loved the music and the culture. It's the easiest language to speak outside say, “Hola!” with the best of them. Juanita Rios sounds great. I like that!
What's the one thing you hope someone takes away with them after watching you on stage?
A piece of my thighs. If an audience is happy then I am happy. It's that simple.
You have been a supporter of the gay community and AIDS charities for decades. What would you like to say to your gay fans?
Thank you for my career. You were the first ones to find and stick with me and not to mention the ones who get all the jokes.
Tell me your thoughts on gay marriage.
I am totally against gay marriage because all my friends are gay and it's costing me a f--king fortune in gifts. How many cocktail parties can I give? It's so stupid. The truth is if you want to get married, get married. This should not even be an issue.
